Planting 834,703 trees is an incredible achievement—but there’s no reason to rest just yet. In the sixth round, we want to raise the total count to one million trees. Every kilometer walked, run, rode or swam and every minute spent on the treadmill, weight rack or training mat will be converted into trees, and Viessmann will plant saplings in the forest as soon as possible.

Climate conservation is our joint responsibility, and we welcome everyone who wants to support us. Track your activity and workouts in the ViMove app, and you will immediately see how many trees will be planted and how much CO2 will be offset. Share your results and nominate other participants to beat your record. You can also form teams and invite friends and family because not only can we accomplish anything with one another—it’s also more fun here.

We want more!

We’ve already achieved so much with  #ViMoveForClimate. Thanks to your support and your workouts in the first five rounds, we have planted more than 830,000 seedlings in Cambodia, Peru and up to Sauerland. As they grow, the trees will aid the preservation and recovery of their ecosystems by protecting soil, balancing water management, preserving biodiversity and, of course, collecting CO2, among other things.

We want to take on more responsibility by setting our goal at planting one million trees. That’s why Viessmann has purchased around 1,700 hectares of land in northern Finland. Nearly a third of the area is covered with trees, while the rest is mostly a marsh. The area’s trees and marsh remove around 5,200 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

All exercise counts

The principle of #ViMoveForClimate is simple: You do the exercise, and Viessmann will plant the trees as a reward. You can improve your health while making a contribution to climate conservation at the same time. To ensure that you can make the most of your exercise, there are almost 30 types of sports from which you can choose.

Below, you can see how we convert your exercise into tree units: For example, you can play 20 minutes of golf, cycle three kilometers, hike one kilometer or do twelve minutes of yoga for one tree.

Bring your friends

Anyone can join  #ViMoveForClimate, so it’s important to invite your friends, colleagues, neighbors or family members to form a team. Sign yourself up in the ViMove app. In the “Teams” menu tab, click “Create Team” and then “Invite Members”. Here you can either enter email addresses, or share the link with your friends.

What we can achieve together

Trees are our partner in climate conservation: According to experts, trees absorb around one ton of CO2 from the atmosphere each year for every cubic meter of wood they grow. Trees also clean the air of pollutants and clear water with their root systems, which act like a filter.

We will be planting #ViMoveForClimate trees in the Viessmann forest in Finland. We ensure that the vegetation is suited for the location and matches the natural environment, and we will leave the marsh areas untouched, as they are also important as CO2 reservoirs. We will also manage the forest sustainably, meaning that we will only remove as much wood from the forest as will grow back in the same period. When the wood is processed and used in furniture or construction, harmful greenhouse gasses are stored permanently and kept out of the atmosphere.

When does the current #ViMove campaign start?

We are starting the final round for 2021 on October 31, and will end the campaign when we have made it to a total of one million trees.

How can I participate in #ViMoveForClimate and what do I need to join?
You can join at  app.vimoveforclimate.com. Simply upload a screenshot of your exercise and enter your performance manually. It’s even easier if you own a Garmin tracker—you can connect the tracker to ViMove and it will automatically load your data.

Can I participate in #ViMoveForClimate if I don’t work at Viessmann?
Yes, everyone can participate and exercise for climate conservation.

Can I take part in #ViMoveForClimate if I don’t use a smartwatch?
Yes. You can simply upload records of your activity to the ViMove app. This can be a screenshot from your tracker or from a health or fitness app on your smartphone, as well as a photo of your exercise bike’s display. You can then enter your results manually in the ViMove app.

Which types of exercise are included in #ViMoveForClimate?

We try to offer as many sports as possible, and especially those that are most common. Currently, you can participate with almost 30 sports from running, hiking and cycling to cross-country skiing and from stand-up paddleboarding to yoga and golf. See more in our  overview.

How much exercise do I have to do to plant a tree?

That depends on the sport. Take a look at our  overview, where you can see how much activity you need to complete to plant a tree. For example, one kilometer of running, three kilometers of cycling, twelve minutes of stand-up paddleboarding all account for one tree each.

Where can I see how many trees I have contributed?
If you log into the ViMove App, you can see your activity in summary, including how many trees have been planted for your exercise and how much CO2 has been offset. If you participate without an account, you will see your results summarized individually after each exercise session has been entered.

How often can I participate in #ViMoveForClimate?

You can participate as often as you would like—even several times a day. All your exercise will be counted until we have reached our goal of one million trees.

Where will the trees be planted as part of this ViMove campaign?
We are planting trees in our own sustainably-managed forest right now. Viessmann has purchased 1,700 hectares of land in northern Finland for this purpose. Just under three quarters of this land is covered with trees, with the remaining 28 percent mostly consisting of marshes.

Why did Viessmann select CHOOOSE as a partner in earlier rounds?

Viessmann selected CHOOOSE because the Norwegian startup not only plants trees, but also works directly with locals. This increases that likelihood that the project will continue to benefit the people and the climate long after the trees are planted.

Why did Viessmann decide to use its own forest area?
In 2021, we committed to planting one million trees together, and your support inspired us to take more responsibility. That’s why we’re launching our own reforestation project. With #ViMoveForClimate, we want to preserve biodiversity and save forests.

Does Viessmann store my data and for how long?

• The following data will be processed and stored in the ViMove app:
• Participant data: Address, first name, surname, email address
• Performance data: Date, kilometers and minutes
• Performance record: Screenshots, photos (for manual uploads)
• Data from the Garmin App: Time stamps, performance type, units traveled, time spent
  
  

When the Garmin App is linked, we automatically receive the service provided. Please review Garmin’s data policy. Data will be deleted immediately after it is completed and evaluated, but no later than three months afterwards. Please see our privacy policy as well (Link). At no time is it possible for us to process your movement, the places that you have been, or similar requests. You can also request that your data is deleted at any time. To do so, write an email to  data@vimoveforclimate.com  to revoke your data. When will the trees be planted?

The trees will be planted by the selected organizations in 2021 and 2022 at the time best suited for seedlings. This is highly dependent on the season and the local weather conditions, which means that it varies by region. For example, trees will not be planted when there is a risk of ground frost or extreme heat. Extreme weather conditions can damage the sensitive seedlings. The aim is to plant all the trees by the end of 2022.

How quickly can I access the ViMove web app, or save it on my smartphone?
When you first log in, a pop-up appears that explains exactly how to proceed. If you did not see it or clicked to close it, you can simply click on “Bookmarks and Home Screen” in the menu (top right) and read the instructions there.
